Build Your
Website
Every page of your site on one board, five across. Draw the links between them, check it on a phone, and open the code panel whenever you want to read the HTML and CSS it has been writing for you.
Free to build. No account needed to start, and nothing you make is locked in.
Twenty pages, all at once
A website is not one page, so the editor does not show you one. Every page sits on a single board, five across, and zooming out puts all twenty in front of you — which is the only way to see the shape of a site rather than a page of it.
- Click any page to edit it. The one you are working on is live; the rest stay drawn beside it so you never lose your place.
- Rename a page above the page. The name sits on the board where you can read it, and it becomes the filename when you download the code.
- Draw the links. Prototype mode connects one page to another, and you name each link yourself.
Press </> and read it
At the bottom of the right-hand column there is a button marked with an angle bracket. It writes your site out as files and shows them to you — before you download anything, and without asking you to publish first.
- One file per page. Named after the page, with index.html for the first one, exactly as a server expects.
- Your prototype links become real navigation. The arrows you drew on the board come out as anchors between those files.
- Plain HTML and CSS. No framework, no build step, nothing to install. It will still run in five years.
- Download it as a zip, or copy one file, or share it to GitHub, CodePen, DEV or r/webdev.
<!-- written by the editor, not by hand --> <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="UTF-8"> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width,initial-scale=1"> <title>Studio</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="styles.css"> </head> <body> <main class="xode-page" style="width:1600px;height:1000px"> <!-- every element, where you put it --> </main> <!-- from the links you drew on the board --> <nav class="xode-nav"> <a href="about.html">About</a> <a href="work.html">Work</a> </nav> </body> </html>
Four people, one pen
Invite up to three others onto a project. One person edits at a time and everyone else watches it change — which is deliberate. Two people typing into the same page over a normal web connection is how work gets quietly lost, and we would rather tell you who is holding the pen than pretend that problem does not exist.
- A colour each, and a light that blinks while someone is actually in the project — not a list of who has an account.
- Take the pen, hand it back. Whoever has it edits; the rest see every save within a few seconds.
- You decide what each person can do. The owner sets it, and can change it whenever.
- read
- open the project and watch it change
- write
- can also take the pen and edit
- execute
- can also publish, export and download the code
Three of the four are in the project right now. Meera is signed in but away, so her dot is dark — the light only means what it says.
Check the phone without leaving
A tab on the edge of the canvas opens a phone, a tablet or a laptop with the page you are working on inside it, updating as you draw. It is a preview of the real thing: the site you download scales the page to the viewport the same way, using the same arithmetic, so what you see in the frame is what a visitor gets.
- Three sizes — 390, 834 and 1280 wide, the ones that actually matter.
- Collapses out of the way when you are not looking at it, and stays closed until you ask.
Starters that are already five pages
Every one is a whole site — Home, About, Work, Pricing and Contact — with the links between them already drawn. Below are the actual home pages, rendered by the same code the editor uses, so nothing here is a picture of something else.
From board to address
Pick a starter, or start blank
Eight starters, or an empty board at whatever size you like. Add pages up to twenty.
Draw the links
Prototype mode connects your pages and lets you name each link. Those names become the navigation.
Publish it, or take the code
Press Publish and pick an address, or press </> and download the files to host anywhere you like.
Your work, at your own address
Press publish and your site becomes a real web page on a real address, in seconds. No hosting account, no domain to buy, no files to upload.
A real address
Your site goes live at xodeinc.com/your-name — a link you can put on a CV, in an email signature, or on a business card.
- Pick your own address
- Live in seconds
- Works on every device
Secure by default
Every published page is served over HTTPS with a certificate we manage. Nothing to configure and nothing to renew.
- Free SSL
- No setup
- Nothing expires
Change it whenever
Edit and republish as often as you like. The address stays the same, so a link you shared last month still works.
- Unlimited republishing
- Same URL every time
- Updates are instant
Findable
Published pages are ordinary web pages, so search engines index them and previews render properly when shared.
- Indexed by search engines
- Link previews work
- Listed on the Great Wall
What it costs
Building is free and always will be. Publishing is included free, up to 20 live sites per account — far more than most people need. See the pricing page for the full picture.
Using your own domain
Pro accounts can point a domain they own at a published site, so it appears at your address rather than ours. You buy the domain; we handle the certificate and the DNS instructions.
Ask us if you would like this set up for you.
If you stop paying
Nothing already published is taken down. Dropping to the free plan limits new publishes, but pages that are live stay live and links people already have keep working. And whatever happens, the </> panel will still hand you every file — a site built here is never held hostage.
